Ever feel like you got pitched a baby to raise?
Interesting sensation. More on that later, when the project at hand becomes a little more clear.
In the meantime, here’s the word from A Year with Rilke for today:
The tasks that have been entrusted to us are often difficult. Almost everything that matters is difficult, and everything matters.
— Rainer Maria Rilke,
Letters to a Young Poet
That’s way too apt, at the moment.
Indeed, when I look at what I hold in my hands, everything does matter.
I’m honored — if a little confused — about what I’m being asked to do, but it really is a beautiful baby. Its parents are beyond compare, and just need a little help right now.
Someday doing the work I love may come in the shape of a J-O-B with a paycheck and benefits, but for now, I won’t complain. There’s plenty to do, and it all matters.
PS: No, the project is not an actual baby.
PPS: Yes, I can use that photograph. 🙂
