Advent journal: love incarnate

On the night you were born
you’d already been here a while
infinitely long as divinity
almost nine months
in finitude.

On the night you were born
I don’t imagine you knew
your universe had shrunk
from interstellar starshine
to blood-washed womb.

But on the night you were born
you did know warmth:
a heat you had never felt before,
and would never forget,
no matter how strong that tiny heart grew.

On the night you were born
you changed everything
and you let everything
change you.

Immanu-el.

God with us.

Amen
